Wallpaper installation questions, answered
Twelve questions we get asked before a job starts, answered straight. If yours is not here, call and ask — we would rather talk it through than have you guess.
All questions
How much does wallpaper installation cost in Charlotte?
Wallpaper installation runs $2.50–3.00 per square foot across the Charlotte metro. Ceilings are $4.00–5.00 per square foot with a surcharge for height, removal starts at $3.00, and the minimum job is $200. Large jobs are discounted and quoted individually, and the final figure is set once the walls have been measured.
Do I buy the wallpaper, or do you?
You buy the paper and we install it. We will help you work out how many rolls to order before you buy, which matters more than it sounds — getting that count wrong costs more than the labour does.
How many rolls do I need?
Send us the dimensions and a link to the paper, and we will tell you. The number turns on the pattern repeat, the wall height and whether the drops have to be matched, and a general rule of thumb tends to be wrong in the expensive direction — so we would rather work it out against your actual wall and your actual paper than have you order short.
Do you remove old wallpaper?
Yes — removal starts at $3.00 per square foot. How long it takes depends on how the old layers come away, and older houses often have two or three of them, so we ask for photographs before giving you a range.
Do you prep or repair the walls first?
We prime walls where the surface needs it, and that is the extent of the preparation we do. We do not skim coat or level walls. If a wall needs plaster repair before paper can go on it, we will tell you at the quote rather than partway through the job.
How long does it take?
An accent wall takes from three hours, and a room is usually a day. Anything larger is scheduled once we have seen photographs and measurements.
Do you work with peel-and-stick?
Yes, we install peel-and-stick alongside grasscloth, vinyl, non-woven, murals and photo wallpaper, fabric, prepasted and commercial-grade coverings. One caveat worth knowing before you buy it: peel-and-stick will not hold on a sun-facing wall.
Can you install grasscloth in a bathroom?
No — grasscloth is not suitable for bathrooms. The fibres take up moisture, seams open, and the natural colour variation that makes it attractive starts working against you. Vinyl and non-woven coverings are the durable choice for a room that holds damp, and we will say so before you buy rather than after.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes — one year on our workmanship, with common-sense limits on where certain materials belong. We will tell you before we start if your choice has one. Grasscloth in a bathroom and peel-and-stick on a sun-facing wall are two we run into often, and they are examples rather than the whole list.
How far do you travel?
We work up to 200 miles from our base in Monroe, with a maximum of three and a half hours' travel, and there is a surcharge beyond that. The six towns with pages on this site are where we work most, but the service area is considerably wider than those.
Are you insured?
Yes — we carry $1,000,000 general liability insurance. That is the cover commercial sites and general contractors need to see on file before work can start.
Can you work nights or weekends?
Yes, for commercial work by arrangement. Our office hours are Mon–Sat 9am–6pm, and out-of-hours work is scheduled per project rather than run as a standing second shift — which is usually how restaurant and retail jobs have to work.
