Wallpaper inside picture frame molding, in a Charlotte powder room
We filled the existing frames above the blue wainscot with Thora, a paper wallpaper from Birch Lane, and were done in two hours.

What the job was
The room already had its trim: picture frame molding on the upper walls and painted wainscot below. The paper goes inside each frame and stops at the molding, so the painted border around every panel stays visible and the pattern reads like a set of framed prints.
The homeowner bought the paper, and we hung it.
The paper
Thora is a matte paper wallpaper from Birch Lane, here in the Soft Blue colourway. It comes as a double roll, 20.5 inches wide and 33 feet long, which is about 56 square feet.
The whole room took one roll.
It is non-pasted, so the paste goes on by hand rather than coming ready on the back. The pattern repeats every 23.2 inches with a straight match, which means the same motif sits at the same height across the room. That helps in frames, where the eye compares one panel with the next.
Why frames take more care than a plain wall
A plain wall is one long run of paper. A framed wall is a series of small ones. Each frame is cut to fit on its own, the edges have to finish tight against the molding on all four sides, and the pattern should sit the same way in every frame so the set looks matched from the doorway.
One roll of paper, but a lot of cutting, and that is where the care goes. Paper wallpaper adds to it: it is less forgiving than vinyl or peel-and-stick, and a crease or a torn edge stays visible.
